Why is my forecast empty or look off?

A forecast can appear missing or unusually high or low for a handful of well-defined reasons. Most are resolvable without contacting support.

Common reasons

Brand-new SKU with little history When a SKU has very few sales on record, RevoStock routes it to a simpler fallback method — typically the last observed day's velocity or a store-wide mean. The forecast will be conservative until enough history accumulates. This is expected behaviour.

No sales in the lookback window If the SKU hasn't sold anything recently, velocity shows as "—" and Days until stockout reads "infinity — no movement". This is not a bug; it means the model sees genuine zero demand for that window.

Stockouts in the history RevoStock detects periods where on-hand was zero and treats them as stockout days rather than true zero-demand days, so they don't drag the forecast down. If your inventory tracking was unreliable during a stockout, the history feeding the model may still be misleading — in that case, accumulated future data will self-correct over time.

Untracked inventory SKUs with Shopify's Track quantity setting disabled show as Disabled in RevoStock and receive no forecast. Enable quantity tracking in Shopify Admin, then run a manual sync.

Trigger mode set to Disabled If the SKU's trigger mode is set to Disabled in Replenishment Config, the planner skips it entirely. Open the SKU detail drawer and check the Configuration Governing This SKU rows to confirm.

Single large outlier order One unusually large bulk order can spike the forecast temporarily. RevoStock caps extreme outliers using an IQR-based method (factor 3.0), but the effect may still be visible shortly after the event. It normalises once newer, typical orders enter the window.

Stale figures after a config edit If you've just updated replenishment config, the Buying Table won't reflect the new numbers until the next sync. Click Recalculate now in the stale config banner at the top of the page to force an immediate refresh.

What to check

  1. Open the SKU detail drawer and review the Configuration Governing This SKU section — it shows the exact trigger mode, lead time, safety stock, and days of supply in use.
  2. Confirm Track quantity is enabled for the SKU in your Shopify Admin.
  3. If you recently edited config, look for the stale config banner and click Recalculate now.
  4. Check whether the SKU has at least a few weeks of order history. If it's newly listed, give it time.

When to contact support

If none of the above explains what you're seeing — for example, the forecast is wildly off for a SKU with months of clean history — email [email protected] with the SKU name or variant ID and a brief description of what the forecast shows versus what you'd expect.
