Initial sync stuck or failing

The initial sync is the step where RevoStock pulls your products, variants, and order history from Shopify for the first time. For most stores it completes in several minutes, but large catalogs — thousands of variants or many years of order history — can take up to around 30 minutes. If the sync card appears frozen, has clearly exceeded those windows, or is showing an error, the steps below will get you moving again.

Try this

  1. Wait a few minutes and watch the progress log. The sync card refreshes automatically every couple of seconds and streams a terminal-style log directly on the screen. Lines that say "retrying" are normal — they mean RevoStock is waiting out a Shopify rate limit and will resume automatically. Only act if the log stops updating entirely or shows a hard error message.

  2. Read the error message in the log. Common messages and what they mean:

    • "Rate limited — retrying in X seconds" — Shopify is throttling the request. Wait; RevoStock handles this automatically.
    • "Access scope mismatch" or "Unauthorized" — the app's Shopify permissions may be outdated. See step 3.
    • "Network error" or "Connection refused" — a transient issue; proceed to step 4.
  3. Confirm the app still has access in Shopify. Open Shopify Admin, go to Apps, and verify RevoStock is still listed as an installed app. If it was removed or has a permissions warning, reinstall it from the Shopify App Store — reinstalling automatically restarts a fresh sync.

  4. Retry the sync. Click Start Sync on the onboarding card. The sync job is idempotent, meaning running it again will not create duplicate data — it safely overwrites whatever was fetched before.

  5. Trigger a manual sync from the Dashboard. If your onboarding card already shows Step 4 ("All set"), the sync may have completed partially. Use the data-sync indicator in the Dashboard page header to kick off a fresh refresh, then return to check whether the data appears.

tip

Very large stores (10,000+ variants or 3+ years of orders) routinely take 5–10 minutes on the first sync. Keep the browser tab open so the progress log can stream fully.

Still stuck?

If none of the steps above resolve the issue, contact RevoStock support — see Contacting RevoStock support. Include the error message from the sync log and the approximate time the sync started so the team can correlate it with server-side logs.
